Ric Robertson

New Orleans-based songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Ric Robertson synthesizes the full canon of American music—New Orleans jazz, classic American pop songsmiths, country, modern funk, swampy blues, and R&B to name a few—and births it into something out of this world.

A previous collaborator with acts such as The Boston Boys, Lucius, The Wood Brothers, and Rhiannon Giddens, Robertson will release his new apocalyptic funk EP Strange World on September 25 via Free Dirt Records. Co-produced and mixed by Lucius member Dan Molad, Strange World is a cross-genre odyssey, and the perfectly fitting soundtrack for turbulent times. It reminds us of the ongoing revolutionary power of music and storytelling amidst tidal waves of technological development, reckless world leaders, and global unrest.

Like New Orleans itself, Robertson’s music is a swirling blend of sounds, traditions, and stories that form something completely distinct. Though it knows and loves its musical forbears intimately, it won’t be claimed by one single musical influence. Robertson conjures this musical pedigree into a cohesive potion, a finely-tuned sonic concoction with just enough rock n’ roll to kill, just enough blues to keep you alive, and just enough country to make you hold on to love.
